well done saf. send 2 storeman to taiwan do saikang also can get killed. although i understand this accident is out of saf's hands i cant help but feel this is damn unfair for the 2 nsf's. Honestly i wouldnt give a damn if it were 2 regulars who got killed. Seriously. It'd still be a tragedy yes, but the inclination for empathy would be lesser. Just look at it from the NSF point of view, borne in a country he has no control over, forced to waste 2 years of his life in NS, go through the shitty BQ course, probably get posted against his wishes to somewhere for saikang, and then get killed. wow. at least if this happens to a regular, we can truly say that he died 'in line of duty', because he has a choice, he has chosen to dedicate his life to the country, and if this suay thing really have to happen to him, then really too bad, cant blame anyone. the 2 poor guys, they may have 'died in line of duty', but we all know the truth, if you take the whole thing in its entirety that they were killed doing something they had no choice over.
and this response by the parent of the guy who survived, but over 45% burns on his body was just damn funny la. u see what he said
Mr J Ramakrishnan said: "I feel very grateful to the armed forces. Major Ron played a very important part, contacting me initially, updating me, even at 2am. He did everything possible, told me he'll update me. He did everything possible, even arrangements to fly us up. He also understood our request for him to be flown back to Singapore."
Translation : Huh ? My precious son forced to taiwan, go there with 2 working legs and hands but now coming back on a hospital bed with over 45 burns on his body, and who is currently on ventilator support ? Why it's ok la! I'm still very grateful to the SAF for giving my son the chance to serve the country and experience 'combat'! This will DEFINITELY toughen my son up. huh what's that you say...my son could possibly be disfigured or scarred for life...?huh..anyway i still feel very grateful to the saf la! And Major Ron for his role of updating me important information like exactly how many percent of my son's body is already gone..man i DEFINITELY need to know that. Exact, concise, precise, and to the point. Major Ron is a prime example of capable leaders in the SAF. His generosity even extended to the point of being the first to tell me even if something were to happen to my son, i should only expect a 'realistic' payment from the SAF! To me, i'd NEVER take financial compensation over the sheer pride and honor of serving my nation. As a matter of fact, i'm going to write a letter of recommendation for Major Ron for his 2nd crab promotion now!
